Family Volunteering
Can you imagine your community without volunteers? Please take a moment and reflect on this – a community without volunteers in schools, without volunteers in hospitals, no coaches, no youth leaders, no church volunteers, no emergency services like Foodbanks and animal shelters, no volunteer fire fighter….. what a mess we would be in! To continue to experience the quality of life we have come to know because of volunteerism, we need to constantly replace exiting volunteers with new volunteers – the younger generation.
As a means to promote volunteerism to the younger generation, the VRC has initiated a Family Volunteer Program. This program provides opportunities for younger children and youth to volunteer. Starting young and volunteering as a family creates a value and culture of volunteering and will hopefully inspire the younger generation to carry on the tradition of volunteering.
We realize families are busy and have difficulty committing to a specific timeframe on a regular scheduled basis. For these reasons, the Family Volunteer Program is flexible. Your family signs up and provides contact information, as opportunities arise you receive a call or email, you decide if it fits your interest and availability – it’s that easy!
Your family unit can be any type of unit – parents and kids, aunts and uncles with nieces and nephews, grandparents with grandchildren…it really does not matter what your “family” dynamic looks like. To find out more about family volunteering, please call the VRC @ 403-362-4432
Some Inspiration...
A young, very inspirational Jaylee, decided for her 8th birthday that she would like to help out the community of Brooks. Her and her family, planned a non-traditional birthday party, instead of gifts, she wanted her friends to donate food to the food bank, and volunteer around Brooks that day! A true inspiration to us all, "little hands making a difference!"
